Diabetes in adolescents?

I'm doing a documentary on diabestes and the correlation between the schools selling soft drinks and candy and increasing number of diabetics among the youth population in Canada. Do you think that schools, by selling products that are high in sugar such as beverages drinks and snacks, contribute to the increased number of type 2 diabetes among adolescents?

Yes … While I do agree with answerers you say that type 2 diabetes (and type 1) is inherited, which adds to it. When children have a lot of pop to drink and eat many sugary foods fattening at school, they will gain weight … resulting from obesity …. increasing their chances of developing type 2 diabetes. The number of type 2 cases among adolescents is increasing daily and will continue to grow until something done. By controlling or cutting a part of "widgets" which is available to students in schools, risk factors for developing Type 2 diabetes can be reduced considerably. I think what you are doing is a great project to put on and I wish you all the best. I work for a health district in Virginia as a small health educator with the diabetes program we have here. We try to address the same issue in our schools here. If there is anything I can help you, just message me! Good luck and best wishes ….
